NARC Kenya Press Briefing
Calls for justice and accountability are being drowned by the political system which drives after it's own interests. The oppressive political system is biased to put resources only where they will benefit. People have been abducted and kidnapped from different locations such as Mombasa, Nairobi, Athi River and many other parts of the country. The constitution has been put down more like it has been suspended. Arbitrary arrests and detentions have become the order of the day. Peaceful Protesters have been killed and found in morgues and abandoned quarries. The aim is to inflict maximum fear upon the population. Some dead bodies found in morgues have been classified as death through accidents.
Disobedience of court orders. An example Malindi Court issued an order on 24th June 2024. The order stated that the police should not use any weapons or any form of violence. But the following day, there was a lot of brutality upon protesters. The day for nanenane protest, people could not access the CBD. Any groupings of five or more people were quickly dispersed.
It is not enough for the police to have a meeting with media council. We demand action and accountability. Kenyans should uniteand push for accountability. We demand justice for families that lost loved ones. A formal complaint has been made to the UNHCR and other international instruments. Citizens should defend the constitution as we are in a situation whereby human rights are under siege.
Education. The new education funding model for public universities has been designed to deny education to the needy students. This amounts to discrimination. JSS teachers are being made to teach subjects they didn't train for. This results to shortfalls in the effectiveness of CBC. We demand for the formal appointment of JSS teachers.
The Government wants to return sections of the finance bill. Also the discredied ADANI group should be resisted by Kenyan citizens from taking over the operations of JKIA airport.
