Chelugui Hands Over To Oparanya
Hon Simon Chelugui officially hands over to Hon Oparanya the reigns of the ministry of Cooperatives and Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (MSME's). Hon Chelugui reflected on his achievements as he handed over the reigns to Hon Oparanya. The achievements include the following:
The development of a cooperative bill which had been all talk and no action for the last 15 years. It had severally faced several hurdles which were effectively handled to offer practical solutions. His tenure had lasted for one year and 18 months which is almost two years of starting off a new ministry.
The revival of KUSSCO was done effectively despite hurdles which were both policy and financial. However, after hard work, it bore fruits. The revival of the new Kenya Cooperative Creameries. This is also a huge milestone with direct benefits to both farmers and final consumers. The introduction of coffee bill to improve the well being of coffee farmers hence empowering farmers.
Hustler Fund had reached up to 22 million deserving Kenyans. This huge task of keeping the fund relevant has been handed over to Hon Oparanya. He is to ensure that defaulters pay so the fund can assist other Kenyans. The need to reduce the cost of animal feeds through reducing the cost of raw materials. This will then indirectly lead to better governance within cooperatives.
As he handed over, Hon Chelugui offered his support to incoming CS, Hon Oparanya on any pending issues. He commented that he is free to consult him on any way forward that seems to be having hurdles.
Hon Oparanya acknowledged the ground work done by Hon Chelugui to start off a new ministry from scratch. It wasn't easy as it involved put up structures that were not there before.
