Jimi Wanjigi

Jimi Wanjigi press statement on the current state of abductions

Safina Party Leader Jimi Wanjigi on Tuesday, September 3, condemned President William Ruto over the illegal abductions that were reported in the country at the height of the anti-government protests. They went against the structures of human rights that also includes the right to picket and present our grievances to any Government offices.

Addressing the press at a Nairobi hotel accompanied by his lawyer Willis Otieno and other leaders, Wanjigi asked Kenyans to rise up and demand accountability and justice over the continued abductions witnessed in the country. He mentioned that it is totally unjustified for such abductions even after protests had fizzled out.

The international community is also watching even though passively, they should not take it as a sign that all is well. It is about time we turn back the country into the right directio. ‘’I am sounding an alarm, we are on the edge of an abyss and moving speedily in the wrong direction, we must all wake up and demand the truth, justice and accountability.

The buck stops with the President since he is ultimately responsible for any injustices. For the avoidance of doubt, the president is solely responsible for the abductions, enforced disappearances, and murdering of the young people of this country,’’ he alleged.

As a nation, it is wrong that citizens should be cornered to live in fear. As citizens, we have the Right to enjoy our freedoms without it being denied. He added that the alleged abductions, enforced disappearances, and the extrajudicial killings witnessed in the country were a strategy by the government to spread fear among Kenyans.

There are some appointees of the President practicing some excessive excesses due to the authority they weld. The politician reminded the Inspector General of Police that the Constitution demanded him to operate independently and comply with the requirement for respect for human rights

On the president’s promise to crack a ring on the abductions and disappearances, Wanjigi told the media that he the president was not serious about the same claiming that it was a mockery to the families of the victims. There should be serious actions being taken as it should not just be empty promises.

We demand empathy from the President as he should be taking seriously the issue of taking efforts to please us Kenyans. ‘’President Ruto is hypocritically mocking, laughing and demeaning the abducted whose loved ones are crying daily,’’ he stated.

Wanjigi reminded the president to govern by the oath he took to diligently serve the country with justice and in accordance with the law

‘’Regrettably, today it can be confirmed that President Ruto has not only violated the constitution but also contravened the oath of office he swore to protect.
