On Monday 7th October, Network International a leading player in digital commerce in Middle East and Africa (MEA) region. They launched a series of digital payment solutions in Kenya as well as launching an ambitious plan to transform digital payment solutions across Africa. It is also a build up to the already laid down foundation when Network International entered the Kenyan market in 2021 with the purchase of Direct Pay Limited. This launch fall in line with the national payments strategy 2022 that was launched by Central Bank of Kenya. It involved adopting QR code payments, enabling the Government's digital plans.
Judy Waruiru, the Regional Managing Director said " the launch of point of sales solutions is part of a bigger strategy to penetrate the Kenyan market. As a company, we are a pionner in online payments in Kenya.
Network International has identified an opportunity for growth in Kenya's digital payment solutions market. We have around 55,000 POS machines in Kenya but up to 7.4 million registered businesses. This is a sign that there is still a huge gap that needs to be closed.
Network International will make POS systems more accessible to merchants. QR code and portable points of sales systems will lead to an increase in revenue for merchants.
The POS solutions launched by Network International will be offered for free to merchants. They have already been tested and ensured that they integrate smoothly with existing financial ecosystems. Even roadside traders and hawkers will be able to accept card and mobile money payments, hence it will impact both the formal and informal economy. Even as cash remains dominant in Africa, there are opportunities for growth in digital payments. It also involves helping businesses to grow by simplifying payments and commerce.
