Wildlife Research Training Institute Strategic Plan Launch



The WRTI Strategic plan launch 2023/2027 was held on 5th October at Wildlife Research and Training Institute HQ in Naivasha. Dignitaries present included Board Chairman Dr. David Nkedianye, CS for tourism and wildlife Hon Rebecca Miano, PS at State Department for wildlife Silvia Museiya, Chair of the KWS board of trustees and other dignitaries.

At the institute we are committed to strengthening wildlife conservation in Kenya and nurturing skills for sustainable environment stewardship. The board of the institute has been instrumental in shaping these strategies. The end result has been ensuring good governance and strategic direction in formulating the strategic plan 2023-2027. The board has worked closely with management, experts and stakeholders. 

WRTI agenda aligns with the Government's efforts to conserve biodiversity and mitigate climate change. It also involves enhancing the capacity of rangers, researchers and wildlife officers. 

The strategic plan involves:
Research and innovation - Using scientific research, the aim is to contribute positively to wildlife management and conservation.
Community engagement - Conservation is not an isolated activity, it involves local communities as stewards.
Sustainability - Building resilient ecosystems and ensuring our wildlife can be enjoyed by future generations.

Core Values under the Strategic Plan
Integrity - Upholding honesty and transparency in all operations.
Professionalism - Upholding high standards of competence and accountability in all activities.
Stewardship - Nurturing responsible management of public resources.
Innovation - Adopting new ideas, approaches and technologies.
Partnership - creating an environment for capacity building.
Quality - Offering excellent research and training outputs.
Teamwork - Upholding the spirit of working together.
Inclusivity - Enhancing gender and social diversity. 

The strategic plan will provide leadership in coordination in wildlife research and provision of scientific data. The plan involves the implementation of the National Wildlife Research Agenda 2023-2027 whose aim is to boost wildlife research in the country. 

The strategic plan is a blueprint to guide the country in providing solutions to the challenges facing wildlife conservation and will reshape the future of wildlife conservation. 

Congratulations to the board, management and staff of the institute for this major milestone. The launch of the strategic plan 2023-2027 is a testament to the organization's dedication to safeguarding our wildlife heritage.

(KEHPHPU) The Kenya Environmental Health and Public Health Practitioners Union has issued an urgent appeal to President William Ruto’s administration to prioritize preventive and promotive healthcare through increased investment and strategic reforms. KEHPHPU Secretary-General Hon.
