Anti-FGM Board thanked the PS for Gender and Affirmative Action for always being there for us. FGM is a form of gender-based violence with physical, emotional and psychological scars. It works against human rights.
We are here to give a voice to the voiceless and to come up with alternative rights of passage. Communities should be at the centre of the solution. Every survivor needs to be heard and given a platform to speak out. The media is also needed to keep the conversation alive and to spread awareness
Thirty years after Beijing conference in 1995, it is unfortunate that we still have FGM in Kenya, which is a form of violence against women.
Solutions are hereby suggested:
Inter-Agency collaboration. Ministry of Health, Ministry of interior, the Church and gender-based organizations should complement Government projects
Community Engagement. Engaging adults to try and change traditional beliefs.
