52nd EARACG Meeting held in Nairobi on 18th November 2024

This bi-annual Commissioner's General meeting brings together heads of revenue authorities and senior officials from the East African region to share experiences and address common tax administration challenges. The key note address was given by Hon John Mbadi, Treasury CS. Commissioners present include: Robert Mutebiof Uganda, Yusuf Juma of Tanzania, Jean Claude of Burundi, Daniel Dominic of Malawi, Said Ali of Zanzibar, Fascal Mohamed of Somalia, Daniel Dunguna of Malawi among other officials.  The theme for the 52nd EARACG meeting: Enhancing tax compliance through effective community engagement in a digital era. Speaking during the opening of the meeting, National Treasury and Economic Planning Cabinet Secretary, Hon. CPA John Mbadi Ng’ongo has said this is critical in view of the need to reduce reliance on foreign debt as well as the growing global competition for scarce financial resources that has come in the wake of geopolitical events such as the conflict in the Middle East

  Kenya Revenue Authority (KRA) is set to reintroduce the graduate trainee   programme   as   it   embarks   on   plans   to   open   more   campuses   of   the   Kenya   School   of   Revenue   Administration   (KESRA) across   the   country.   Speaking   during   KESRA’s   21 st   graduation   ceremony   at   Bomas   of   Kenya,   Nairobi, KRA Commissioner General, Mr.Humphrey Wattanga has said that   the   programme   will   augment   the   Authority’s   efforts   to   build   its   human   resource   capacity in keeping   with   the   organization’s   9 th   Corporate   Plan.   He   said,   “In   light   of   our   unwavering   commitment   to   building   a   skilled   workforce,   I   am   excited   to   announce   that   this   financial   year,   we   will   re-   introduce the Graduate Trainee Program, which has historically proven to be a   potent   program   for   imparting   essential   skills and knowledge   to   our   staff”   The   Commissioner   General   further   said

  Government spokesman Isaac Mwaura has mentioned that the Kenya Kwanza administration is committed to upholding human rights and fundamental freedoms.Addressing concerns raised by Catholic bishops on Thursday, Mwaura said the Government is deeply concerned about the safety and human rights of all Kenyans. He noted that the National Police Service has reported that, during the June and July 2024 protests, 495 police officers and 347 civilians were injured, with another 42 Kenyans losing their lives. “We acknowledge the tragic circumstances and confirm that the Directorate of Criminal Investigations continues to investigate any disappearances even as the Independent Policing Oversight Authority remains focused on identifying and addressing any excesses on the side of the police,” Mwaura said in a statement.
