East Africa Philanthropy Network
A gathering of 159 organizations from across the East African region came together for the 2024 Grantmakers Summit in Nairobi. The summit titled 'strategic philanthropy in a dynamic era' brought together Grantmakers to discuss the future of philanthropy amid global changes and to discuss new models that offer new avenues for sustainable growth.
We stand at the intersection of tradition and innovation and we are called to rise to the occasion. Having identified the gaps and shortcomings in our tradition practices, we must focus on adaptive strategies.
We are in a collective journey where philanthropy is moving from simply being a charitable act to a powerful force for sustainable development. The dawn of the 21st century has introduced a new philanthropy with tech-savvy Grantmakers. The convergence of philanthropy and technology offers a unique opportunity to drive change. It is time that we surpass outdated boundaries and adopt approaches that integrate social, environmental and economic dimensions.
In an era of rapid change, the ability to remain agile is key. Philanthropy must evolve from static, one-size-fits-all models to dynamic frameworks. This requires a mindset of continuous learning, flexibility and innovation.
Our discourse will be anchored on three pillars of assessing, architecting and advancing. Assessing involves evaluating our effectiveness with rigorous evaluations while identifying loopholes and shortcomings. Architecting involves what we ought to do in response through collaborative ventures. Advancing involves sustaining the momentum.
We should form strong alliances across sectors, geographies and disciplines. Such alliances and partnerships will then enable us to achieve our sustainable development goals.
