Nairobi Region Tujiamini Gold Winners

Call For The Establishment Of Women Boxing League To Elevated The Sport in Kenya

Box Girls Kenya was founded in 2007 by two women who were dreaming to excel in the sport of boxing. One of the founders is Analo Anjere who also doubles up as boxing coach. Sixteen years later, more than 4,000 girls have been trained in boxing. They are now planning to expand to other sports so their empowering activities can expand beyond the boxing ring. Box Girls Kenya is a community based boxing organization located in Kariobangi in Embakasi North Constituency in Nairobi.

Box Girls Kenya have suggested thr establishment of a women,s boxing league in Kenya to help in the development of the sport. This happened during the unveiling of the Box Girls Kenya as the Tujiamini Gold award winners for Nairobi region. The prize money for the award is Ksh 500,000. Tujiamini, powered by sportpesa aims to uplift sports talent in the community level. The upcoming talents in the community don't have much access to resources compared to their counterparts in the professional level. When a league is in place, there is an increase in competitiveness through regular tournaments. This will then lead to opportunities both regionally and globally. If this happens, we will urge members of the public in the community to come out in large numbers as fans.

Tujiamini award prize money will go to the upgrading of the gym which is currently not well equipped. Tujiamini initiative powdered by sportpesa heads to South Rift region in the month of September. It will then spread to the rest of the regions of Kenya to become a national movement.
