Less Steps For Water

March 22, 2024Today, World Vision Kenya(WVK) through the partnership with Inuka Angaza Fund hosted the less steps for water run at World Vision Karen office. Well-wishers were called upon to help tackle water scarcity in Salgaa, Nakuru County. The aim is to improve water access to 6 schools. This way the children can enjoy their education without being interrupted by the scarcity of clean water for sanitation. This will led to improved health as well.

Generous contributions from Nakuru County, KenGen, contributions from World Vision Kenya staff, corporate partners and other well wishers has enabled the vision to remain strong and effective.

Installing two 30,000-litre rainwater harvesting tanks to ensure a reliable water supply is one of the goals. We are therefore rallying colleagues, partners, famiies, children and supporters to tackle water scarcity in Salgaa,

Beyond schools, the Umoja Water Project, developed in partnership with the County Government is providing access to clean water and reducing dependence on unsafe water sources. The main target includes mimwaita and Gicheha Primary Schools. This will reduce the prevalence of water borne diseases such as cholera, diarrhoea and dysentery. We are addressing this reality by focusing on sustainable solutions that address the root causes of poverty and water scarcity. This specific run is not just about fundraising it is about changing lives

For many children in Salgaa, the daiy search for water has been a significant challenge. Walking long distances in search of water. Rather than children facing such a challenge, they should be focusing upon their education instead.

We are focusing to see more people now having access to improved drinking water sources within a 30-minute radius. This will reduce reliance on unsafe sources and lowering the prevalence of waterborne diseases.

A modern automated water kiosk has been established at the borehole site, making clean water more readiy available.

An 8km pipeline distribution network, funded by the Nakuru County Government, has also been put in place.

Kayanet Primary School and Umoja ECD now have clean water, benefiting 390 children. All the above initiatives have expanded water access to homes, schools, and eary chidhood deveopment centres. This will enable expanded water access to homes, schools, and eary chidhood development centres. Such centres will be equipped with computers and a library to promote digital literacy while also serving as a safe space for adolescents, youth, and women to receive life skills

Angaza Fund, is also spearheading the construction of a Community Resource Centre at Belbur. This is  part of its commitment to longterm sustainable development. Also in addition there will be training, mentorship, and counselling services.
